The Pulsate Dance Academy Story

Miss Tanya 2006

Pulsate Dance Academy in Wangaratta is the regions premier dance school. Led by Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer, Tanya Singh (ARAD) and with Associate Teachers.

Tanya Singh has been dancing since 1982 and completed her training in performing arts at the London Studio Centre (UK). Following the completion of Tanya’s scholarship in London, she took up the opportunity of dancing nationally and internationally.

After working in various dance schools around Australia, Pulsate was a dream that became a reality in 2002. Competing each year in Eisteddfods, Pulsate Dance Academy has become one of the most in demand performing arts schools in the North East Region of Victoria. Between the years 2003 to 2005 Pulsate Dance Academy enrolments increased by 63 per cent, from 80 paid members to 130.

Due to the large diversity of dance offered at Pulsate we select superb music, produce beautiful choreography, awe-inspiring dancing and magnificent costumes all combined to create an uncompromising standard of excellence and a masterful command of every aspect of staging, including design and lighting.

Pulsate students travel to Melbourne accompanied by Tanya Singh to encourage learning from other dancers from the USA. Within these workshops Pulsate students were selected out of the crowd to win Scholarships to the Hip-Hop All Stars Convention. Other workshops attended include: Fourways Dance Conventions in Albury and Source Dance USA.

As part of our business and community working relationship, Pulsate Dance Academy encourages students and teachers (where available) to assist in community and not-for-profit organisations in supporting them.

In 2003 Pulsate Dance Academy worked with Arts Council of Victoria as the Regional Rehearsal Director for Bal Modern as part of the Melbourne Arts Festival.

In 2004 Pulsate Dance Academy was again commissioned Arts Council of Victoria to choreograph an African and Latin Contemporary dance piece for the Mt Beauty Music Muster.

In 2004 Pulsate Dance Academy, worked with ‘Wangaratta Players’ to choreograph the famous musical production – Greece.

In late 2004, high demand for Pulsate classes had lead the business to relocate in 2005 to a newly renovated two studio premise that was fitted with professional sound, tarkett dance flooring, mirrors, and separate change rooms. This encouraged a safe, professional learning environment that excelled the students development in dance whilst providing ease of access to all our customers.

In 2005, Pulsate students had the opportunity in providing dance entertainment to the elderly community as part of Senior Week and at the RSPCA Pet for Life Day.

Pulsate Dance Academy gratefully acknowledges the invaluable support it receives from its sponsors, academy supporters and associate partners.

In 2006, Pulsate Dance Academy students won 47 First, 23 Second, and 23Third places at dance competition in the region, proclaiming to be the regions premier dance school.
